Dr Andrew Ferreirinha is an accomplished Paediatrician who recently joined Mediclinic Kloof, bringing with him a wealth of experience and a deep passion for improving the health and well-being of children.
After completing his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) at the University of Pretoria in 2012, he went on to obtain a Diploma in Child Health (DCH) in 2015 and a Diploma in HIV Management in 2019 from the Colleges of Medicine of South Africa. His dedication to paediatric medicine was further solidified by completing the Fellowship of the College of Paediatricians of South Africa (FCPaed) and a Master of Medicine (MMed) in Paediatrics from the University of Pretoria, both in 2023.
His professional journey commenced with an internship at Themba Hospital in rural Mpumalanga from 2013 to 2014, where he rotated through various medical disciplines. It was during this time that he was drawn to paediatrics, particularly inspired by the resilience and honesty of paediatric patients.
Dr Ferreirinha's subsequent work experience is extensive and varied, having served in multiple capacities across South Africa. His roles have included working as a Paediatric Medical Officer at Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Hospital in Phoenix, Durban, and Leratong Hospital in Gauteng’s West Rand, as well as a Medical Advisor for Right to Care, a USAID-funded NGO partner to the Mpumalanga Department of Health. Before he joined Mediclinic Kloof he was a Registrar in Paediatrics at the University of Pretoria, working in Steve Biko Academic, Tembisa and Kalafong Hospitals, where he honed his skills in various sub-specialties of paediatrics.
Fluent in both English and Afrikaans, Dr Ferreirinha excels in clear and compassionate communication, ensuring that his patients and their parents leave with a good understanding of their diagnoses and treatment plans.
A passionate educator, he has devoted considerable time teaching medical students, interns, and junior medical officers, particularly in HIV management and understanding anti-retroviral treatment.
At Mediclinic Kloof, Dr Ferreirinha is excited to provide top-notch paediatric care, drawing on his extensive experience and deep passion for helping children. His approach to paediatric care is holistic, focusing on educating parents to ensure they fully understand their child's condition. He relishes the opportunity to bring his unique blend of clinical expertise and compassionate treatment to the community of Pretoria East and beyond.
Outside of work, Dr Ferreirinha is an avid wildlife photographer and enjoys traveling through Southern Africa. He is optimistic about the future of South Africa and is committed to contributing positively to the country's healthcare system.
